Multi-layer Labels for CLP Regulation

Today, we are introducing multi-layer labels for CLP regulation. First, the CLP regulation is a set of rules by the EU concerning the classification, labelling, and packaging of substances and mixtures. Since December 31, 2008, the classification, packaging, and labelling of chemical substances have become essential for the safe transportation and use of chemicals. The CLP regulation imposes the following three obligations on manufacturers and importers (suppliers) within the EU.

・Obligation to classify chemical substances (substances and mixtures) according to the criteria for hazard classification
・Obligation to ensure the safe packaging of chemical substances
・Obligation to label chemical substances (label display)

When exporting raw materials to the EU, be aware that the CLP regulation applies if you are sending products that fall under the category of chemicals.
In other words, when exporting items equivalent to chemical substances to EU member countries, it is essential to adhere to the standards, packaging, and labelling requirements of each receiving country.

In most cases, it is possible to display everything on a single label.

But what if the content cannot fit on a single label?
What if you want to create a label with multilingual display to increase versatility, instead of making separate labels for each country?

In such cases, we would like to introduce "multi-layer labels for CLP regulation".

What are Multi-layer Labels for CLP Regulation?

Multi-layer labels are leaflet-like labels that can multiply the display area. For example, when an item is compact but has many things to display, and it does not fit in the available space, these multi-layer labels become useful.

As shown above, by folding the printed material into an enclosed format, a large display area can be secured. This image is composed of a total of seven pages (six pages of coated paper on the upper layer, and one page of tack paper on the lower layer).

Features of Multi-layer Labels

■ The printed material can be folded and compactly stored
■ Being a label, it can be directly attached to products
■ It can be sized to fit containers or cases (minimum 35×35mm)
■ It supports automatic application (may not be possible for complex specifications)

Achievements with Multi-layer Labels for CLP Regulation

In collaboration with Yamaha Corporation, we have produced multi-layer labels for CLP regulation. Previously, products were packaged with printed ingredient lists enclosed, but it was required to have the ingredient list directly attached as a label on the product for acceptance. This led to us being approached.

Our most common achievement is a total of 25 pages, with 27 languages displayed compactly on a single label.

The part that becomes the peel-off section is over-laminated, allowing it to be opened and closed.

This is grease used for musical instruments.

The multi-layer label is attached to the back.

It opens from the peel-off section on the right side. (Left opening is also possible)

The peel-off section is of the over-laminated type. (There is also a perforated type)

The seal part attached to the bottle is made of transparent PET 50μ material, printed in two colors (red and black).

The folded leaflet part is made of 68kg coated paper.

Using a mini folding machine, it is skillfully folded into fine folds.

When unfolded, the W35mm label expands to 377mm. (Folded to about one-tenth of its size)

It consists of 25 pages in total (breakdown: 24 pages of double-sided coated paper + 1 page of the seal part).

As mentioned above, it is displayed in 27 languages. There may be no printing company in the country that can produce this.

How to Create Data

After placing an order, we will provide format data like the one below in Adobe Illustrator with the specified dimensions. You will need to layout your content within this format. We can also create the data for you, but a data creation fee will apply.

About Delivery Time

The delivery time is approximately 11-13 business days from the date of order and data submission.
Due to the multiple processes involved, such as printing the seal part, printing on coated paper, folding, material bonding, and inspection, the delivery time is longer compared to regular printed materials.
